New episode! Recognition, access, and equality for people with MCS.

Hi everyone,

This summer, I donned my MCS mask and flew to Europe.

My goal: to bring you a series of critical conversations with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) advocates, lawyers, clinicians, researchers, and people with lived experience with the illness.

Over the coming weeks, you'll hear important and fascinating perspectives and insights on MCS from Spain, Italy, and France.

As you know, travelling with MCS is not easy.

The trip involved many prior conversations with hosts about safe, natural, and unscented cleaning products. I brought my own bedding, tent (in case it was necessary), and thing mostly went smoothly.

The journey was extremely fulfilling and fascinating.

I'm grateful to everyone who listens and watches the podcast.

Thanks for being part of this growing community, and please share your thoughts.

Beyond Medical Recognition β€” MCS, Disability, & Human Rights

β†’ Can people with MCS fight discrimination even without full medical recognition?

I'm excited to share this episode of The Chemical Sensitivity Podcast with you.

You''ll hear me in conversation with human-rights lawyer Paloma Torres LΓ³pez, co-founder of MEDUSA Human Rights in Madrid, Spain.

Paloma shares important perspectives about her legal team's innovative approach to rights for people with MCS baed in international law.

Key themes:

  • Why people with MCS shouldn’t have to wait for full medical recognition

  • Disability rights and the social model of disability

  • Accessibility and reasonable accommodation

  • Discrimination at work, in schools, healthcare, and public spaces

  • Fragrance-free environments as an accessibility measure

Paloma explains how environmental barriers can prevent people with MCS from participating equally in society β€” and why disability and human-rights law may offer another path toward recognition, access, and equality.

But being doubted creates distance where they long for closeness. We talked about the pain of being misunderstood and not believed, and the longing to be seen. We want the people in our...
